After a summer and a fall of COVID anxiety and bad habits I woke up Tuesday morning to massive chest pains. Luckily I was smart enough to call for an ambulance and go to the hospital. I was glad that I did, within half an hour of making the call I was on a table having a 100% blockage removed and a Stent put in.
I also had a blood sugar of 388 mg/dL which was probably the root cause of the heart attack.
This was not the way I wanted to spend Thanksgiving week and it certainly changes things. I hadn’t planned on going cruising with diabetes and a heart condition and wasn’t planning on changing my diet. Heck part of the adventure of travel is exploring all of the crazy food.
So it seems that the name I chose for the Blog is much more literal now since I’m going to mostly be writing about my dietary changes for a while. It’s not even been a week and I’m already amazed at how diet, exercise, and meds can manage blood sugar. I woke up this morning with a blood sugar of 94 mg/dL which is in the normal range.
I went a bit overboard in the Cardiac ICU and ordered a whopping 15 cookbooks that followed the advice of my new Cardiologist and my new Diabetes Specialist. I’ve been going through the ones I ordered on the Kindle and making a list of the direction I want to go. Haven’t made a food order yet or done any planning but I want to kick off December with some new menu items in the house.
And of course I’ll be sharing here.
The whole experience has certainly been another reminder that far too many of us, and especially me, procrastinate living out lives and doing what we want to do. I’m glad we have pushed our timeline forward.
