Fernandina Beach Florida is about an hour south of Cumberland Island Georgia on our boat. And despite the excellent holding we typically spring for a mooring ball. You can of course anchor and pay the city marina for shore services which is a much better deal.
We went specifically for groceries, and once tied to the ball I decided that I’d also make a few Amazon purchases so we paid for a week made our grocery run, and placed our orders.
When in Fernandina Beach you can almost always find me at Amelia Island Coffee which is right on the main road in town. I found my way there just about every morning as a spot to pick up a big cup of tea and to get as much of my work for the day done.
Then there were many grocery runs, several pizza stops, and three trips to “The Tavern” for what I’m declaring is the single best Fried Chicken Sandwich on the US East Coast.
Spicy honey, banana peppers, and a perfect piece of chicken that has the best crust. The honey gets into all the nooks and crannies of the fried chicken but doesn’t take away from any of the crunch. I’m already thinking about how much I’m going to enjoy one when I return in the fall.
We ended up extending our stay a 2nd week due to some drama and the need for some medical intervention and then a 3rd week to wait for the right sort of weather to head offshore.
