With a pair of hurricanes square dancing in the Atlantic Ocean we decided that Nantucket for as great as the holding is there wasn’t the place we wanted to be when they came close.
Especially since all the meteorologists were sayin that their interaction could have unexpected results and could make them turn in unexpected ways.

With our engine still missing a part we waited until it arrived and then made our way out to visit a favorite spot of ours.
Hadley Harbor is a super protected little cove with a bunch of free to use mooring balls. The area is owned by, I think the Forbes family, so they don’t want you on shore, but there is a nice spot set aside for folks to walk their dogs.

We sat out the glancing blow from the hurricane. Outside of the cove the winds hung about 20 knots gusting to 30, in Nantucket they were 30 gusting to 40, and in this tiny cove. They were 5 knots gusting to 10!
There wasn’t even a ripple on the water the whole time the storm was passing. It was so calm in here that the boat next to us with two wind generators had to turn on his diesel in the evening to top off his electricity.
Overall it was a rather uneventful trip, and stay. Which goes to show how important it is to explore all the cool little spots that might just offer refuge someday so that when someday comes you know where to go.

The entrance to the cove can be intimidating. Two very close together channel markers and a curving entrance. With the stress of coming here the first time long since passed I was able to do the entrance with the sun in my eyes and not worry.
Even though it’s not really a spot to go exploring on shore Hadley Harbor is an excellent spot to drop the dinghy or the kayak to go exploring by water. And the fish always seem to be jumping.
Overall a great spot and with free moorings as a bonus.
