Each winter we end up with a good boat project. This year’s project was an easy one. All I needed to do was write a check. We also had the Liam needs his captains license class and Ryan needs a SCUBA class but those were just writing checks as well. It’s been an easier winter project year this year.
Since we were going to be in Oriental NC for Liam’s Capt’s License course and were staying at a marina we decided it was finally time for a new dodger. And who better to call then the Sailor’s Seamstress, Nicole Edwards who had set up shop in Oriental after her recent cruising adventure.

I didn’t do much, and Nicole was super easy to work with. She was able to put together a new dodger for us that has worked quite well.
Some measurements for an estimate, then a pattern, then a fitting, then a final install. So she ended up visiting four times total and we ended up with a great dodger that we promptly took offshore for a couple of adventures.
The total cost, and I’m sure she gave us a discount, was about $4,000 which seemed fair. As much as I want to learn how to sew and do some canvas and other boat sewing projects the dodger is too important for me to start with and we need something to keep us safe.
Heck the only downside is that now I want to go back and have her build us a whole enclosure.
