Hopping Outside VA to MD

With a pending deadline of needing to be in Maine for Liam to do some school stuff that needed to happen in person we decided to hop “on the outside” for the rest of the way north. And to do so we also decided to do a few 24 hour hops. Our first hop was from Hampton Virginia to Lewes Delaware. Lewes is an excellent well protected spot with a nice breakwater where you can anchor either behind the breakwater or close to the beach if you want to go to shore.

We chose to go to shore after a 24 hour passage we were a bit tired and hungry so it was off to beach the dinghy and head first to Dairy Queen for some food and then we rode our scooters down to the closest gas station to pick up diesel fuel and then used the scooters as “wagons” or “carts” to push the now heavy containers of fuel back to the dinghy and eventually back onto the boat.

It took forever but with a still broken fuel gauge I didn’t want to take any risks at all.

The town was cute and it looks like it could be a fun spot to stop for a bit and explore the town. And I’m hoping to have time to stop in the future to do just that. But we had both a deadline to get to Maine and some weather to avoid, hopefully on a mooring so the next morning we poured in the fuel we had purchased to top off our tank and headed out for Sandy Hook New Jersey.
